Striding edge

Summary

This is a classic route from Glenridding over one of the Lake Districts iconic ridges. I was only young when I did the walk, however you could say this where my love for being in the outdoors and walking started. It is a walk I want to go back and do again but haven’t had chance to yet.

I remember it was a wet and foggy day as we set off up striding edge to the top of Helvellyn. This is a very narrow ridge so you have to be careful on foot if it is wet as a lot of scrambling is involved, there is also a view of a lake in the middle of the valley which is called Red Tarn. Which makes you realise how high you are if you look down.

We had poor visibility at the top due to it being foggy so there wasn’t a view to look at, but there was a bit of whisky we had as a celebration. We descended down Swirral edge to Glenridding over rolling terrain that is a little less scary and easier on foot.

Please note as Striding edge is a popular route this can get quite busy.
