Prague

The capital city of the Czech Republic

Summary

Short weekends away are quite popular when it comes to visiting Prague and is nicknamed the ‘city of the thousand spires’ mainly for its variety of architecture, churches, and old towers. It is the largest city in the Czech Republic and the 13th largest European city. The city thrives off tourism especially stag and hen parties for the cheap alcohol but has a lot of attractions for the solo traveller or romantic getaway too.

Attractions:

Prague castle, Charles bridge, Petrin view tower, Startmestske names, St.Vitus cathedral, the old town and Astronomical clock, national gallery, Prague Zoo, the lennon wall, national theatre, dancing house and hilltop fortress.

These are just a handful of attractions that I either visited, or wanted to visit but didn’t have time.

The Trip

I visited a friend who lives and works in the city so it was a good excuse to visit and saved me money on accommodation. I also got to the see outside of the city which showed the real Prague. He was working throughout the week so I was exploring the city on my own mostly. As I was roaming the streets, I found that there was a lot the city had to offer, bustling with people everywhere, it was hard what and where to visit first. Either way I was never bored and always saw something new and could taste new cuisines from the local market in the centre such as goulash which didn’t agree with me too much.

At the weekend I was given the official tour by my friend. We visited lots of bars to try the local beer which was extremely cheap, where we drank on a rooftop terrace looking down into the main square. Most of the places on the list above we visited, but what stood out to me was the viewing points over the city, especially from the Petrin view tower. It looks like the Eiffel Tower. This is what interested me the most, being able to see the city from high up and see the architecture for miles and miles.
